Pete's Dragon (updated)

Hey there blog, been a while. I had been taking a break from posting and personal work to get things about my life in order. Now that I'm a full grown adult type person with a house and a mortgage, two puppies and an insanely hardworking wife, the focus on those things have kept me pretty busy. However the production of my personal work has taken a dive as well as other motivators. I thought I would "just take January off", but January turned into February and it made it pretty hard to get back in.  I wish I was one of those creative types that seemingly have boundless creative drive. I do for the most part, but I enjoy being human as well and as I get older pushing into 3am becomes less and less appealing for me.

Every so often I get in that art funk, and I ask myself why? Why do this at all? Why does creating creatures hold any value for me? It's a silly job, really, a strange and silly profession. I didn't even know that you COULD do this. There are so many successful artists in this industry that are better, more experienced, are far more original and so on. Admiring or envying your professional peers and their accomplishments in unhealthy ways.  All those reasons you tell yourself that keeps you down and from progressing in your own art or life journey.

Then you see this. Working on Pete's Dragon more than two years ago was a great pleasure for me, and I hope to share more of the story of what designing the dragon meant to me, which I'll do later on when it comes out. Director David Lowery had a vision for what he wanted, and was able to communicate it so beautifully, that it made the work a sheer pleasure. If you have a moment, be sure to check out his Blog on his experience filming Pete's, I know he put a lot of heart and soul into the work and it showed from day one.

So it's with great pride and boundless childlike joy that I see the poster rendered so perfectly here. And the timing of the release also coincides with my birthday only two days later, what a reminder of why I put my heart and soul into this everyday, because every so often you get to be a part of a vision like this.
